Philae Island and Temple; The Temple of Philae is built in honor of the goddess Isis; it is famous for its beauty. Surrounded by greenery and the Nile, the temple’s remains combine ancient mysticism with the beauty of nature. There are four other temples located on the island– one dedicated to Horus (son of Isis), one to Imhotep (architect of many of the ancient structures that still stand today, such as the Step Pyramid at Sakkara), and two temples dedicated to two Nubian deities called Mandolis and Arhesnoter.
The Nubian Villages; Located on Aswan’s small islands; they are known for their bright and colorful structures. The Nubians have a rich history dating back to before ancient Egypt. They speak their language and have their own set of traditions. Learn about their culture and history as the cheerful locals welcome you with open arms.
Kom Ombo Temple; This is a unique place due to it being a double temple. It has separate halls, rooms, and sanctuaries dedicated to two different gods– Horus (the hawk god, son of Osiris and Isis) and Sobek (the crocodile god). The Crocodile Museum is home to 22 mummified crocodiles–all found in the surrounding area around the temple.
The Temple of Edfu; This temple was built during the Ptolemaic Kingdom for the god Horus and the goddess Hathor. It was a place of religious importance during that time.
The Valley of the Kings; There are 63 known tombs at this location! Each tomb is more unique than the next, and all are filled with ancient carvings, paintings, and hieroglyphics.
The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut: is famous because although she was a female, she dressed like a man and ruled as a pharaoh. After her demise, she was erased from history by Thutmose III unsuccessfully. The temple itself is an ancient architectural masterpiece. While here, we will stop by the Colossi of Memnon.
The Luxor Temple; Unlike most temples in the area, Luxor was not built in honor of any particular god or pharaoh. Many pharaohs contributed to the construction of this temple, including Amenhotep III, Tutankhamun, and Ramesses II.
Karnak Temple Complex; Was built during the Middle and the New Kingdom and the Ptolemaic Dynasty. The most famous part of the complex is the Great Hypostyle Hall in the Precinct of Amun-Re. This hall is made up of 134 columns divided into 16 rows. About 30 pharaohs contributed to the building of this complex.
